Netflix has dropped the first sneak peek of “Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft,” the animated series starring Hayley Atwell (Agent Carter).
This project was first unveiled by the streaming giant in early 2021 when it announced its partnership with Legendary Pictures to expand the universes of Skull Island and Tomb Raider with two new anime series.
The story of “Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft” follows Square Enix’s rebooted franchise, comprised of three video games, and ventures even further as Lara Croft explores new territories. The first installment features a wounded Lara as she ventures into a storm surrounding a mysterious island to find an artifact that will affect more people than she initially thought.
Netflix has revealed that it is set to premiere sometime in 2024. Tomb Raider has become one of the most acclaimed adventure and action franchises in recent years, spanning not only films but also comics.
This project marks Lara Croft’s first foray into animation. In 2001, Angelina Jolie portrayed her in two films: “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider” and “Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life.” Later, in 2018, an attempt was made to revive the franchise with Alicia Vikander in the lead role. However, it seems that a sequel with Misha Green as the director is still in the works.
