Stephen King’s literary world has been a wellspring of inspiration for cinema for over 50 years, and it shows no signs of stopping. “Simetierre: Origins of Evil,” a new adaptation of King’s novel, has recently been released on the Paramount+ platform, offering a different take on the familiar story as a prequel. To the surprise of many, Stephen King himself has endorsed this new film, particularly commending its story quality. However, not all critics share the same sentiment, as seen on Movipage.
For filmmaker and screenwriter Lindsay Beer, receiving praise from Stephen King is a rare and remarkable achievement that many directors could only dream of. In “Simetierre: Origins of Evil,” the character Jud Crandall ultimately decides to stay in the town of Ludlow to watch over the cemetery, leaving room for further exploration.
Following this project, Lindsay Beer was hired to create a new adaptation of Sleepy Hollow. But what about a sequel to her version of “Simetierre”? Lindsay Beer suggests that it might be a possibility, given the mythological depth she developed while crafting the screenplay:
“I have a whole mural of the murders in my head, what their sins were, what they did to each other, what everyone knew about each other, and what was kept hidden,” she explains in an interview with But Why Tho? magazine.
In a conversation with SFX Magazine, she continues, “You could make several movies within the ‘Simetierre’ universe to uncover the origin of this evil, where it comes from.”
As of now, no sequel projects have been officially confirmed by Paramount. However, if the prequel achieves success on the Paramount+ platform, it’s highly likely that it could pave the way for new cinematic endeavors within the “Simetierre” universe “Simetierre: Origins of Evil” is now available for streaming on Paramount+.
